Saturday                      27/09/08                      Day 77                        Romania- Bulgaria

The crossing from Romania to Bulgaria was one of refreshing ease, the only down side being the Bulgarian road tax.  Once on the Bulgarian side we continued on to the attractive town of Veciko Tomovo where we feasted at a recommended restaurant on a huge garlic bread, followed by equally huge bowls of pasta, the remainder of which made a fine supper.  After food we made use of a local internet café and the much needed adjoining laundry service before continuing down the country towards Turkey and hopefully some, still illusive, warmer weather.

Sunday                        28/09/08                      Day 78                        Bulgaria

A quick bowl of oats and we left the car park that had been our nights camp and carried on towards the Sakar Hills campsite, owned by an English family, where we planned to spend the night and carry out a number of jobs on the car, including sorting out the now somewhat disorganised interior.

We found our camp, stocked up on food and chatted to the owners and other guests before setting to work.  We cleaned the outside, changed the brake pads and rotated the tyres before firing up the barbeque for a sausage feast.

Monday                       29/09/08                      Day 79                        Bulgaria

The plan for the day was to finish off jobs on the car and make for Turkey in the afternoon. We changed the rubber rear prop shaft coupling and renewed the oil in the transfer box in good time then set about a tidy and reorganisation of the inside of the car. With two and a half months of dirt and dust, and numerous subtle packing improvements to implement the day was hardly long enough so we felt compelled to stay at Sakar Hills for another night. Our work, to our satisfaction, had the car cleaner than it had been all trip and all of our equipment more accessible.

With no food for our unplanned extra night we ambled into the village to a small café Matt had recommended, for a beer and some hearty schnitzel, then back to the campsite to work on the diaries until the cold of the night forced us to retreat to bed. Whilst it wasn’t a warm night, Dave awoke positively hypothermic, and made a dash to the toilet where he saw the return of the evenings schnitzel and spent much of the night.
