Hi! Firstly, apologies for the delay in updating the website, unfortunately we’ve been experiencing a few technical problems and haven’t been able to charge the laptop.

Sunday 13/07/08                    Day 1              UK

After a few packing problems we managed to get away from Dave’s house only a couple of hours behind schedule and two weeks in we still haven’t thought of anything we’ve forgotten (touch wood!).  It turns out we had slightly less room than we initially thought and the 24 rolls of emergency quilted toilet roll may have been a bit excessive, but by using every spare millimetre and a little brute strength we squeezed it all in eventually.

We said goodbye to Dave’s Mum (who was very brave) and Dad and set off.  The drive to Newcastle was fairly uneventful and after a quick refuel at KFC we arrived at the port in perfect time to load onto the boat and wave a fond farewell to the English shores.

We found our cabin in the bowels of the ship, a spacious room with two less-than-single beds and no windows, and went in search of some refreshments.  This was to be our first encounter with the high Norwegian prices as we shelled out a tenner for a couple of pints. We decided to give the alcohol a miss after this and opted for the manly tipple of virgin pina colladas before calling it a night.
